Position Overview
Advanced Engineering Group Inc. (AEGI) is looking for an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join our team in Edmonton, Alberta. We are looking for a professional with strong experience in commercial, industrial, and oil & gas projects. The successful candidate should be able to work independently, communicate with clients and contractors, and take responsibility for structural engineering work from design through construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural analysis and design for commercial, industrial, and oil & gas facilities.
- Design and review structural steel, concrete, foundations, equipment supports, platforms, pipe racks, and other industrial structures.
- Review existing structures and provide recommendations for repairs, modifications, or upgrades.
- Prepare, review, and stamp structural drawings and engineering documents.
- Review shop drawings and contractor submittals.
- Answer RFIs and provide engineering support during construction.
- Conduct site visits and structural inspections when required.
- Coordinate structural work with architectural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and process disciplines.
- Communicate directly with clients, contractors, and project teams.
- Assist with project planning, budgeting, and technical proposals.
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and technologists.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of structural engineering experience.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered in Alberta, or eligible for registration with APEGA.
- Strong experience with commercial and industrial buildings.
- Experience in the oil & gas industry is an asset.
- Experience with new construction, renovations, additions, and structural modifications.
- Experience designing and reviewing structural steel, reinforced concrete, wood, and foundations.
- Experience with industrial structures such as pipe racks, equipment supports, platforms, access structures, mezzanines, skids, and structural modifications.
- Experience preparing and reviewing structural drawings, calculations, specifications, and engineering reports.
- Ability to review shop drawings and respond to RFIs and contractor questions.
- Experience conducting structural site reviews and inspections.
- Good knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada and applicable Alberta codes and standards.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Experience working with architects, contractors, owners, and other engineering disciplines.
